The new temporary sponsored parent visa is designed to allow parents of Australians to stay in Australia for 3 or 5 years at a time.
The intention of the sc 870 visa is to provide an important cultural link for children of Australian migrants, while recognising the social benefits afforded through parent reunification, such as assistance with minding of grandchildren.
In order for the visa be granted, a person must satisfy a number of requirements, including having their Australian child approved as a sponsor, meeting health and character requirements etc.
Sponsorship applications can be lodged as of 17 April 2019, Sponsored Parent visa applications as of 1 July 2019.
